Hello,
My name is Diane and I live most of the year in South Lake Tahoe. I came to Tahoe in 1978 for a visit and never left. I met my future husband while working in the casinos. We raised two wonderful sons and are now enjoying our retirement.
I have always enjoyed doing all kinds of arts and crafts. Throughout the years, I have done many types of art work and have finally settled on three areas that I enjoy and have a true passion for.
I started doing art quilts about 10 years ago. I learned the basic skills on TV quilting shows and my style has evolved into a method of my own. I refer to them as “painting with fabric”, as they are very realistic looking.
I started doing mosaic work about 5 years ago. The whole process of designing, choosing tiles and grouting is very rewarding. It is so fun, in fact, that I now look at all objects as potential mosaic projects!
I started making rope baskets 2 years ago. I have tried many different methods and styles. What I discovered is that the dying of the rope is what I really enjoyed. So I created about 200 baskets and was finally satisfied with the results. Yes, I am a little compulsive!
Color seems to be what draws me to these types of art. I hope to share my current projects with you and maybe encourage everyone to try some artistic challenges of their own. Art is very rewarding. Never say that you could not do this. It's all about practice and persistence.
